Welcome to Rocktail Bay

Rocktail Camp is part of Wilderness Safaris, and it’s set back in and shaded by the sanctuary of the lush Maputaland Coastal Forest covering the ancient dunes that make up the edge of South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal coast – it’s a magical wonderland, and we loved exploring it. Thank you to the amazing Rocktail team for the incredibly warm welcome and big-hearted hospitality.

And, you could possibly call this ‘the longest day ever’… it started early in St Lucia with a drive up the coast, and then into the coastal forest reserve (we got to do some epic 4x4ing). As is almost always the case (thanks to tricky logistics, roads and an insane amount of kit), we were horribly behind schedule when we arrived, so it was rush and panic from the start, including hauling ALL OUR GEAR and full-sized stove from the base of the camp up some of the dunes to one of the tents (read ‘tent-mansions’) perched up above the trees for the best view. The Rocktail team were amazing, unruffled and endlessly accommodating, and we couldn’t have made our crazy day happen without you.

We filmed our cooking segment in a record 4 hours (it usually takes 6-7 hours), and then after dinner we headed out on a ‘Scorpion Spotting’ adventure with Sophie and Isla – did you know they have special exo-skeletons that GLOW IN THE DARK?! It was amazing, and the girls were fascinated 🙂 After we put the girls to bed, we headed out on a 4×4 expedition to the beach in search of Turtles who might have come up onto the beach to lay their eggs. It’s a bucket-list experience, and we were out until about 1am. We only saw one turtle, but a billion stars lit up the sky and it was still an amazing experience.

So, if you’re in search of seaside adventure and magical dune forests, Rocktail Bay is your place. Thank you so much to Natalie and Willem and all of you for having us and for making us feel so welcome! delecamedia.com [_LM_3757]  delecamedia.com [_LM_3622]Ania and I = #TeamSG
