Hello, Groen

Hey Friends!

As you might already have seen over in my Instagram Feed, we recently did a bit of redecorating at our home in Noordhoek, and I was over the moon to collaborate with some really special local brands to achieve the look and feel that we were hoping for.

I wanted very specifically to partner with proudly South African producers who are defined by creativity and care, and to pour a little bit of that magic into our home.

And speaking of creativity and magic, for me the best place to start was with the amazingly talented husband and wife team of Jan and Alana Groenewald at Groen. Their wallpapers are so breathtakingly beautiful and full of life that they are almost three dimensional.

In their own words, “GROEN was established in 2018 when we started designing wallpaper to spruce up our own living spaces. What started out as a hobby, soon turned into an exciting new business. We are genuinely passionate about translating beautiful art and imagery into wall surfaces. A wall that makes a statement has the potential to completely transform a room, breathe new life into the space and evoke a wonderful array of emotions.”

With Jan’s 20 years’ experience in the printing industry, and Alana’s design background, the pair have harnessed and combined their respective skills to produce custom-designed, made-to-measure wall coverings for a wide range of applications.

Along with the GroenJan team and our interior designer Lauren Slinger, we chose a version of their Floral Whisper for our downstairs and upstairs bathrooms, and the endlessly beautiful Jungle Scene for Sophie, Isla and Emily’s playroom/TV room downstairs. We have already shared countless happy memories in the playroom especially, and I’m so excited that there will be so many more for years and years to come. If only walls could talk hey? Well, maybe they do… and now I’m just thinking about which ones to dress up next.

I was honestly blown away not just by the end result, with our girls playroom in particular bringing so much joy every day, but from conception to installation, I was blown away by their willingness to collaborate, and their endless patience with design tweaks, questions, hesitations, and all sorts of hurdles in between.
