A chapter by chapter account of ‘bitten.’

From a mere (seemingly crazy) idea; to a publisher (ballsy enough) to agree to publish said idea; to an actual, real, hardcover, beautiful (and maybe clever and witty too?) BOOK and definitely maybe a TV show?

Chapter 1 – They Said YES, and so I cooked and cooked and (am cooked?)
It’s kind of like a dog chasing after a car – when it catches up with the car it has no idea what to do next…
My situation, that is. My BOOK situation. The one that has eclipsed so many nights with endless scribbles and scrawls and voice memos of ideas, and robbed me of much jolly good sleep. The one that has now become the precursor to much cooking and baking and feeding and tasting and oohing and aahing and turning up my nose in abundance. This situation of a random proposal that I sent to RandomHouse/Struik publishers here in Cape Town months ago, and which suddenly reared it’s almighty daunting head out of the blue and said ‘Yes Please’ and left me stammering and stuttering and fluttering… and HERE. With a book to write. And an overwhelming number of blank pages. And a deadline. Read more.

Chapter 2 – They took some pictures of food

Well, quite a few pictures actually. (And Rob was even in some of them). Beautiful pictures taken by Warren Heath, and styled by Lisa Clark, and then it was all made to look doubly beautiful in the book format by Beverly Dodd from RandomHouse Struik. *Just like that* Read more.

Chapter 3 – They sent me a copy
My very first own copy of my very first own book. (I do not think that is a very well structured sentence, but I am sure I can be forgiven in this case, proper sentence structuring failed me at the time, and sometimes still does). So, it was exciting and terrifying in equal measure. Read about it here.

Chapter 4 – It went on sale, in actual real shops (!)
Do you know, months later, I still sneak into shops and have a little look-see at it sitting on the shelf? And obviously that’s not nearly as exciting for you, so if you would rather do without the faff of hitting the book shop, you can have it delivered to your door. All the information is right here.

Chapter 5 – People said stuff about it, sometimes even nice stuff.
Reading the reviews has been so much fun, RandomHouse-Struik have done an incredible job with their very well-oiled PR machine. Here’s a little look at some of the things that people have said, right here.

And here’s a little peek at one of my favourites so far, TASTE Magazine ‘Book of the Month’ April 2012, oh and Pick n Pay’s Fresh Living Magazine did a feature too, even including yours truly, Mr Rob 🙂

And did somebody say something about a TV show?

Well, yes, I think that was me. Here‘s a breakdown.

The Vibe?
It is presented in an informal blog-based style that is current, sharp and chic, while the approach keeps it casual, spontaneous and down-to-earth. Each episode opens with a quirky ‘sex-in-the-city-esque’ blog-based intro. Pretty cool hey?

The Venues?
From the food markets of Cape Town to a beach cottage on the West Coast of South Africa and into the Cape Winelands and a couple of restaurants, I’ll weave my favourite recipes into my own real-life experiences.

And So…
“In a unique and intimate way Sarah Graham – bitten. will hope to capture the simplicity of making friends with food. It is an expression of passion and inspiration and a celebration of the story behind each taste and the people who make it worth sharing.”

We already have a brilliant international distributor on board, so once we’ve made the show it is going to be on television all over the world! Filming will be done in March/April 2013, so watch this space for updates and even snapshots from the set. Eek!
