Magic in Maputo

If you’re going to stay in Maputo (which you really should, it’s by far one of the most fascinating, colourful and creative African cities that I’ve been lucky enough to visit), then I can’t think of anywhere that I’d rather rest my head at night than the endlessly charming Southern Sun in Maputo. We were spoilt rotten by their amazing team – from sunrise until well past sunset, from breakfast to dinner and so many treats in between, for a full five days while we explored Maputo and captured as much of her magic as we could on camera.

I always say to people who host our crew when we’re on a shoot ‘you might be happy to see us arrive, but you sure as heck will be happy to see us go’ – only because we arrive in a convoy of 5 Suzukis, with my kids in tow, mountains of camera and cooking kit, and our merry (and amazing) crew. Yip, we stick out like sore thumbs. And you guys in Maputo couldn’t have hosted us more graciously, and so this is a sung-from-the-rooftop THANK YOU for everything.

And thank you José for braving the cameras for us (coming up in Episode 4 of #SarahFoodSafari), for taking me on such a brilliant market tour, and for finding us fresh clams! You are a star and our show is all the richer for having you in it.
