The serious face. We saw it a lot. Not because Grant is the brooding, serious kind – far from it in fact, but rather because I am not sure that any of us ever envisioned the list of challenges that would come with getting the job done for this show. An endless list of details were handled by our amazing Production Manager, Anina, but the big things, the major dramas, the proper ding dongs were handled by Grant, and our Executive Producer, Louise McClelland. And believe me, you need to be made of strong stuff when your production budget morphs into a giant monster before your eyes as it gets stretched across three countries; and you’re chasing filming permits down a rabbit hole; managing the editing process while you’re actually still on the road filming; managing the daily production details like what’s tomorrow’s call time and what time do we need to leave Joburg to drive to Prince Albert, and oh my goodness we need archaeologists to eat with us in our Cradle of Mankind episode so can somebody please find us some archaeologists? And that’s barely scratching the surface. Every day.

It’s not often that you see a person so challenged and so stretched take things in their stride with such grace and gallantry as Grant. I have the softest spot for you! I also couldn’t be happier that I can call you my friend. I guess that’s what a thousand phone calls a day during pre and post production will get you hey? Never mind very many long, long days on set (and a few gin and tonics). Thanks for being my friend, but also that guy who looked out for all of us – you always had everyone’s best interests at heart, and that’s pretty special. You poured your whole self into this (and into everything that you do), and I couldn’t be more grateful.

“Most outstanding memory from #SarahFoodSafari – The look of everyone’s faces as they watched the opening sequence for the first time. It was in that moment it all became real. I felt very proud!
What I loved most – Seeing something you’ve envisaged for so long slowly come to life, and being given the privilege to help mould and sculpt it. An absolute privilege, and what an amazing team to experience it with.” – Grant Flynn, Okuhle Media

More About Grant
I guess you could say TV is in Grant’s DNA. He has a passion for the entertainment industry that started at an early age, and he studied Performing Arts after completing Matric, filling the lead role in many musicals and drama productions. Before graduating, his obvious talent and genuine likeability earned him one of the coveted roles as a presenter on the, then new, and much loved youth show, Hectic Nine-9.

After three successful seasons Grant headed overseas to perform on stage on the holiday coast of Turkey. After 6 months in Turkey, Grant came back to SA hand approached Okuhle Media, and asking to train as a Live Studio Producer.  In record time he was “flying solo” and was soon employed as the Live Studio Producer of Hectic Nine-9.  He then followed this with training as a Live Director, and now he’s in the unique position of being able to understand both the creative and technical requirements of a production, as well as how that will translate on camera. And, more importantly, how that will appeal to an audience.

This makes him a brilliant Producer, and he works on both local and international productions.
